As someone who is deeply passionate about motherhood photography, maternity photography is no exception. When most people think of maternity photography, they think of the traditional “bump photos,” but it’s so much more than that. For me, it’s about telling a family’s story during a season of anticipation. It’s about connection, intimacy, and joy—whether that looks like parents wrapped up in each other’s arms, a mother sharing quiet moments with her little one, or the playful chaos of chasing after a two-year-old in an open field.

As an Oakland County based motherhood photographer, I approach each session with the goal of capturing so much more than a baby belly. While I love highlighting the beauty of pregnancy, I also believe maternity photography should show the love that created this life, the strength of a woman preparing to give birth, and the unique connections within a family.
This session was the perfect example. At first, like most couples, they were a little nervous in front of the camera. That’s completely normal—stepping into something intimate like this can feel vulnerable. But once I guided them into moments that felt natural and true to who they are, the nerves melted away. What followed were images that felt deeply personal—sensual, romantic, and filled with love.
One of my favorite parts of this session was capturing the parents together. Instead of stiff poses, I encouraged them to simply hold each other, to laugh, to whisper, to remember the bond that started this journey. Those images have such a sense of intimacy—they’re not just pregnancy photos, they’re love stories.
And of course, their daughter brought so much energy and joy. Photographing toddlers always means being ready to move, chase, and laugh right alongside them. The playfulness of a two-year-old is fleeting, and weaving that into a maternity session makes the gallery feel even more complete. Those silly, unplanned moments end up being some of the most cherished.

For this session, mama wore a gown from my Mother’s Closet—a thoughtfully curated collection of dresses available to all of my maternity clients. These pieces are chosen for how beautifully they move, photograph, and flatter during pregnancy. This particular gown was sourced from Reclamation Design Company, and it brought such softness and elegance to the evening.
One of the things I love about offering my wardrobe is that it takes the stress off my clients. Instead of wondering what will photograph well, they can simply choose something from my closet and feel confident, radiant, and celebrated.
Cranberry Lake Park in Oakland County is one of my favorite places for sessions because it offers so much variety. The open fields are perfect for running and playing, the rustic barns bring in a timeless charm, and the wooded trails add softness and warmth. This setting matched their family perfectly—earthy, natural, and beautiful without needing anything overdone or staged.
As an Oakland County maternity photographer, I love how this location allows families to relax and just be. It’s not about props or forced smiles—it’s about connection in a setting that feels authentic.

What makes this family’s journey even more special is that this isn’t the end of their story with me. They’ve also trusted me to document their birth and newborn sessions. As a Michigan birth photographer, being invited into those sacred spaces is an honor I don’t take lightly.
When families book me for maternity, birth, and newborn together, I offer a bundled discount—because these milestones are meant to flow together. Your maternity photos set the stage, birth photography captures the most powerful day of your life, and newborn images preserve those tender early days you’ll never get back. Having all three means you’ll walk away with a complete, seamless story of your baby’s arrival and your family’s transformation.
And for families who want even deeper support, I also offer birth doula services alongside photography. As both a certified doula and photographer, I can support you physically and emotionally through your labor while also documenting it in a way that is raw, respectful, and beautiful. It’s a unique offering that allows families to feel supported while knowing their story is being carefully preserved.
This Cranberry Lake Park maternity session was filled with everything I love most: intimacy, laughter, playful chaos, and undeniable love. It’s proof that maternity photos aren’t just about the bump—they’re about the people, the story, and the emotions that surround this beautiful season of life.
If you’re expecting and looking for an Oakland County, Michigan maternity photographer—or if you’d like your journey captured from bump to baby—I’d love to walk alongside you. Whether your session is intimate, silly, or a mix of everything in between, I’ll create images that feel like you. And if you’re ready for the full experience—maternity, birth photography, newborn, and doula support—I would be honored to tell your family’s story in its entirety.
