There is something magical about photographing women at sunset in the wide open fields of Stony Creek Metropark. As a Metro Detroit maternity photographer, these golden hour moments are some of my favorites to capture. The light softens, the breeze moves through the tall grasses, and everything slows down for a moment. It creates the perfect setting for a portrait session that feels natural, feminine, and timeless.
Recently I had the opportunity to spend an evening at Stony Creek Metropark in Rochester, Michigan with my dear friend, Dr. Rachel Elizabeth. The purpose of this session was simple. I wanted to showcase one of the beautiful dresses available in my Mother’s Closet while capturing the kind of soft, glowing imagery that so many women dream of for their maternity and motherhood portraits.
The result was pure magic.
A Golden Hour Session at Stony Creek Park with a Metro Detroit Maternity Photographer
Stony Creek Metropark is one of my favorite locations in the Metro Detroit area for outdoor portrait sessions. The open fields, tall grasses, and wide skies create a peaceful atmosphere that photographs beautifully during golden hour.
As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, Rachel stepped into the field wearing one of the dresses from my Mother’s Closet. The fabric caught the sunlight perfectly. With every movement, the dress shimmered and reflected the warm evening light.
It was exactly the kind of moment I love capturing. Soft, natural, and effortlessly beautiful.

One of the things that makes my motherhood and maternity sessions unique is access to my growing wardrobe collection called Mother’s Closet.
These dresses are carefully chosen to photograph beautifully and help women feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera. Many clients tell me that choosing what to wear for a session can feel stressful, especially during pregnancy or early motherhood.

Clients are welcome to borrow any of the dresses for their session. Many of the pieces are flowy, elegant, and designed to highlight movement and natural light. Meet Dr. Rachel Elizabeth
Dr. Rachel Elizabeth is a pelvic floor physical therapist and women’s health specialist serving women in the Rochester and Metro Detroit area. Her work focuses on helping women prepare their bodies for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery.
What I admire most about Rachel is how deeply she cares about the women she works with. Her approach centers around education, empowerment, and helping women understand their bodies so they can move into motherhood with confidence rather than fear.
Her work supports women through every stage of the motherhood journey. From preparing the body during pregnancy to healing and rebuilding strength postpartum, Rachel provides care that is thoughtful, evidence based, and deeply supportive.
