Birth, no matter how it happens, is transformative. It’s truly one of the most sacred moments in one’s life. But amazingly, in a heartbeat, it’s blurred by time.
As a mama myself as well as a Metro Detroit Birth Photographer and doula-in-training, I know how powerful birth can be, not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually as well. You’re here reading this because you might already be aware of this and just curious about what does birth photography entail. Well, let this be your informative guide.
Let’s talk about what birth photography really is, and why so many families in Metro Detroit are choosing to have these once-in-a-lifetime moments documented with intention, reverence, and heart.
Birth photography is the quiet, artful documentation of your baby’s arrival—capturing everything from the steady build of early labor to the first time you lock eyes with your little one. But more than that, it’s storytelling.
It’s the way your birth team supported you.
The way your spouse held your hand.
It’s the way you roared your baby into the world.
It’s the emotion that filled the room.
It’s everything.
As a birth photographer, I move gently and unobtrusively through your space—whether that’s your home, a Metro Detroit hospital, or a cozy birth center—capturing the moments you may not even realize are happening.
Birth photography isn’t about vanity. It’s about value—the emotional kind. It’s about never forgetting the day your world shifted forever.
Here’s what families often tell me:
I didn’t realize how much I’d forget until I saw the photos.
My spouse and I were so in the moment—we’re grateful someone else was holding the camera.
I didn’t know birth could look so beautiful.
As a Metro Detroit birth photographer, I am honored to serve families in all kinds of birthing spaces—from Beaumont in Royal Oak to serene home births in Rochester. No matter the setting, the emotion is the same: sacred, raw, unforgettable.
Behind the lens, I’m doing more than clicking a shutter. I’m reading the energy of the room. I’m holding space. I’m respecting the rhythm of your birth.
Starting around 38 weeks, I’m on-call for you 24/7, ready to join you whenever your birth journey begins. When I arrive, I quietly and respectfully document your labor, delivery, and those sacred first postpartum moments without ever interrupting the flow of your experience. Whether your birth is fast and wild or slow and intentional, I stay grounded and flexible, holding space with calm presence. And as a doula-in-training, I bring an added layer of support—rooted in a deep understanding of both birth physiology and the emotional rhythms that shape this transformative time
If you’re wondering, “Is this for me?”—you’re not alone. So many of my clients come to me unsure, a little nervous, and sometimes even hesitant to be seen in such a vulnerable space.
Here’s what I want you to know:
You don’t need to look “put together.” You don’t need a perfect plan. You just need a desire to remember. To preserve. To honor the moment you became a mother, again or for the very first time.
You get to choose what’s captured, and what’s not. I honor your privacy, your modesty, and your preferences with deep respect.
Working with me means more than just hiring a photographer. It means inviting in someone who sees birth as sacred, who shows up not just with a camera, but with her whole heart.
Here’s what the process looks like:
1. We start with a warm, no-pressure consultation—usually over Zoom or coffee.
2. I walk you through everything: contracts, backup plans, how I stay on-call, and what to expect during labor.
3. I support you leading up to birth, stay on call around the clock, and arrive as soon as active labor begins.
5. Your full gallery is delivered within 2–3 weeks after birth, beautifully edited and ready to relive again and again.
And if you’re open to it, I offer packages that include both doula support and photography—a blend of presence and documentation.
Birth is one of the most vulnerable and powerful things you will ever do. You deserve to remember it—not just with your mind, but with your whole heart. It’s also a wonderful gift to give your child – a chance for them to see how they came into this world. What amazing thing to see – the immediate love that surrounded you. My son was born via cesarean but I am lucky to have some amazing images of him being born. He absolutely loves to see them and ask all sorts of questions, and when he does, I am reminded of all the wonderful memories, even though I had a cesarean. I have a few images of my powerful VBAC with my daughter, and one day she too will ask questions, and once again, I will get to relive one of the best days of my life.
If you’re looking for a Metro Detroit birth photographer who sees you, honors you, and captures your story with care—I’d be honored to walk beside you. I am also in the process of becoming a birth doula with Lifespan Doulas as well as certifying with The VBAC Link to work with VBAC mamas.
Let’s preserve the story you’ll tell your child for the rest of their life.
