Congrats, mama! If you’re reading this, it likely means you’re preparing for one of the most beautiful transitions of your life — welcoming a new little love into your family. And what better way to honor this moment than with a sweet, intentional getaway (aka babymoon) with your spouse?
As someone who swoons over charming details and cozy luxury, I’ve always adored boutique bed and breakfasts. They offer a level of intimacy and warmth you just can’t get from a standard hotel. Michigan is filled with beautiful escapes, but the gems on this list are handpicked for what I know expecting mamas truly crave: comfort, peace, romance, and a touch of pampering.
There’s something magical about a bed and breakfast for a babymoon. The quiet, the charm, the home-cooked meals — it all sets the stage for deep rest and reconnection. Many offer in-room soaking tubs, crackling fireplaces, and private balconies for cuddling up and soaking it all in. It’s a more personalized, intimate way to travel — one that honors how sacred and fleeting this time truly is.
This is your moment for a tranquil escape. Pack soft, stretchy loungewear and supportive shoes, but don’t forget a few pretty pieces for a romantic dinner or lounging in luxury.
If your B&B has a soaking tub (and many on this list do!), treat yourself to some pregnancy-safe bath salts, a rich body oil, and a hydrating face mask to create a spa-like experience right in your suite.
Bring along your favorite creature comforts — a pregnancy pillow, cozy socks, an eye mask, and a sound machine — whatever helps you feel most at ease and supported.
And don’t forget a good book or two. This may be the last quiet chapter for just the two of you for a while. Savor it. Treasure each slow morning and each quiet night together.
When I was pregnant with our second baby, my husband and I treated ourselves to a babymoon. I found the dreamiest spot — complete with a king-sized bed and a massive soaking tub — and it was everything I needed. It gave us a rare chance to truly slow down, reconnect, and soak in the sacred shift we were about to make from a family of three to four. With a busy 4-year-old at home, it felt like a gift just to sit still and be together.
But here’s my little word of advice: don’t wait until 36 weeks to go like I did! That’s the “I’m over it” phase of pregnancy, and your body will thank you for traveling earlier. And while I had big plans for art museums and shopping, what I really needed was rest — and maybe a few slow walks, good meals, and naps.
So let go of any pressure to “do” and allow yourself to simply be. Let this babymoon be a moment of gentle presence — to nest in your heart before nesting at home.
And of course, don’t forget to document this season. Maternity and newborn photography (or even birth photography!) are a beautiful way to preserve the magic of this fleeting chapter.
